Tim Larkin, MD of Edward Hospital describes his weaning protocol for the Impella RP heart pump during this physician Q&A session. In this session, Dr. Larkin explains the utility of the pulmonary artery pulsatility index for gauging appropriate weaning time for the Impella RP. Dr. Larkin also recommends monitoring serum lactate for assessing tissue perfusion prior to weaning.
