EuroPCR 2023 How to Optimize High-Risk PCI Patient Outcome: Opening and Session Objectives

Javier Escaned, MD, opens this session titled “How to optimize high-risk patient outcome?” at EuroPCR 2023. He introduces the three speakers: Nikos Werner, MD; Dirk Westermann, MD; and Vasileios Panoulas, MD.

Dr. Escaned explains that the profile of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has become much more complex and entails a variety of vascular access and imaging techniques. When performing techniques that may cause no reflow or require optimizing vessels, Dr. Escaned emphasizes, “You really need to have very good support from a hemodynamic standpoint.”

Dr. Escaned explains the session objectives, which include:

  • to learn the latest best practices on high-risk PCI
  • to learn about the importance of timing in venoarterial ECMO unloading
  • to review the latest data on coronary revascularization completeness with percutaneous ventricular assist devices vs. IABP
